Newark and much of North Jersey are waking up to hazy and smoky skies Wednesday morning, with air quality alerts in place as conditions remain in the moderate range.
As of 4:30 a.m., temperatures are at a comfortable 72 degrees in Newark.
While it will be a cooler and seasonable day, the haze from Canadian wildfire smoke continues to linger over the region, prompting caution for those with respiratory sensitivities.
According to the National Weather Service, skies will remain mostly cloudy throughout the day, with temperatures expected to reach a high near 82.
Winds will shift from the northeast to the southeast at 5 to 9 mph later in the day. Tonight will remain mostly cloudy, with a low around 68.
Residents are encouraged to limit prolonged outdoor activity if sensitive to air quality changes as hazy conditions persist.
