Paterson to Host Jamaican Flag Raising Ceremony in Celebration of 63rd Independence Anniversary

Paterson officials announced plans to celebrate Jamaica’s 63rd year of independence with the city’s annual Jamaican Flag Raising Ceremony, an event that highlights the vibrant cultural heritage of Paterson’s Jamaican community—the largest in New Jersey.

 

According to Paterson City Hall officials, Mayor Andre Sayegh will join members of the Paterson City Council and representatives from the Jamaica Organization of New Jersey for the ceremony, which will take place on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 5 p.m. outside City Hall, 155 Market Street, Paterson.

The flag raising is a longstanding tradition in Paterson, symbolizing unity, pride, and cultural identity for the city’s Jamaican residents.
