NJ Attorney General Joins Lawsuit Over Planned Parenthood Funding Ban

New Jersey

New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin has joined a multistate coalition challenging a federal provision that cuts Medicaid funding for Planned Parenthood health centers.
According to information released by the Attorney General’s Office, Platkin and 21 other attorneys general, along with the Governor of Pennsylvania, are suing the Trump Administration over the measure included in the recently passed “Big Beautiful Bill.”

They argue it threatens access to vital healthcare services such as cancer screenings, birth control, and STI testing for low-income residents who depend on Medicaid.

“This is a direct attack on affordable healthcare and reproductive services for our most vulnerable populations,” Platkin said.

The lawsuit seeks to block the provision, warning that it could disrupt care for over 1.1 million patients nationwide, including tens of thousands in New Jersey who rely on the state’s 20 Planned Parenthood centers.

The coalition contends the funding ban is unconstitutional and would increase health risks and Medicaid costs if allowed to stand.
