A 41-year-old East Orange man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug trafficking and firearm offenses, U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced.

Ibraheem Muhammad was sentenced on July 24, 2025, by U.S. District Judge Brian R. Martinotti after previously pleading guilty to charges of possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon, possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
According to court documents and statements made during the proceedings, law enforcement began investigating Muhammad’s drug distribution activities from an apartment in East Orange.
On May 9, 2022, authorities arrested him after observing what appeared to be a drug transaction outside the residence.
He was found carrying multiple envelopes of heroin and keys to the apartment.
A subsequent search of the apartment uncovered heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl, along with drug packaging materials, approximately $14,000 in cash, a loaded Girsan 9mm handgun with 14 rounds of ammunition, and an additional 15 rounds of ammunition.

In addition to the 120-month prison sentence, Judge Martinotti ordered Muhammad to serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration.
