UPDATE: NJ Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murdering His Pregnant Ex-Girlfriend in 2021

Authorities in Middlesex County announced that a Plainfield man was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, which occurred on September 4, 2021.

Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone stated that Shakir Tyler, 46, was convicted on February 6, 2025, after a two-week trial, of the murder of his pregnant ex-girlfriend, Tayeesha Webb, 35, of Edison.

Tyler was also found guilty of Unlawful Possession of a Handgun and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, according to Middlesex County officials. 

During the sentencing hearing held on July 23, MCPO officials stated that Superior Court Judge Thomas Abode, J.S.C., sentenced Tyler to life in prison for Murder and 10 years concurrent on the Handgun Possession charge.

The State was represented by Middlesex County Special Victims Unit Section Chief Lynne Seborowski and Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Emily Millner, MCPO authorities said. 

Middlesex County officials said the presentation of evidence and testimony showed that Tyler confronted Ms. Webb outside of her residence.

During that confrontation, Tyler fatally shot Ms. Webb on September 4, 2021, Middlesex County officials stated.
