According to a statement released by NJ State Police, troopers responded to the crash site around 12:30 a.m. Sunday at milepost 60.2 in Passaic County.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a Cadillac driven by 31-year-old Tyshan Roach of Edison, NJ, was traveling eastbound along with a Toyota sedan.

The Cadillac was also occupied by two passengers, Clarence Fennel Jr., 36, and Marque Williams, 25, both of Paterson.

Authorities say the front of the Cadillac struck the side of the Toyota, causing both vehicles to come to a stop in the left travel lane.

Roach, Fennel, and Williams exited the Cadillac and stood in the roadway.

Moments later, a Tesla heading eastbound on I-80 collided with the rear of the stationary Toyota, pushing it forward into the trio and their vehicle. Clarence Fennel suffered fatal injuries as a result of the impact.

Marque Williams sustained moderate injuries, and Tyshan Roach was treated for minor injuries.
