Families in Newark are invited to kick off the school year with a vibrant community celebration aimed at equipping students with the tools they need for success.

On Saturday, NJ4S-Essex will host a Back-to-School Resource Fair and Book Festival at Bethany Baptist Church, located in the heart of Newark.

The event runs from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and promises a day full of engaging activities, free giveaways, and valuable information for families preparing for the upcoming academic year.

The outdoor portion of the event will take place in the church parking lot, where families can explore local community programs and services.

In addition to connecting with helpful organizations, guests will enjoy free food and drinks, as well as chances to win gift cards, home essentials, and school supply kits through raffles.

One of the highlights of the day will be the “Our Kids Read” Book Festival, held indoors in the church gymnasium from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Young attendees can experience live African drumming, captivating storytelling sessions, and interactive activities designed especially for kids.

Every child will receive free books, and complimentary bookbags will be available while supplies last.

Open to all, the event offers a welcoming and festive atmosphere where literacy, school readiness, and community spirit take center stage.

For families looking to ease the transition into a new school year, this is a chance to celebrate together and gather the support they need—all in one uplifting afternoon.
