Federal officials said Kaiyir Green, 22, of Essex County, entered his guilty plea on July 15, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Georgette Castner in Trenton federal court.

Green was charged in a four-count indictment with two counts of possession of a firearm and/or ammunition by a convicted felon, one count of illegal possession of a machine gun, and one count of possession of an unregistered firearm.

According to court documents and statements made in court, the charges stem from a March 1, 2023, incident in which law enforcement responded to a report of a stolen vehicle.

Officers observed Green attempting to enter the stolen car, and he fled on foot, leading police on a lengthy pursuit before being apprehended.

Authorities recovered a privately manufactured firearm—commonly known as a “ghost gun”—from Green. The weapon was loaded with five rounds of ammunition.

Following his arrest, Green made several calls from a recorded jail line, instructing others to remove a “black bag” and “everything” from his residence.

Law enforcement observed someone leaving his home with a black bag, which was later searched. Inside, police found a firearm fitted with an illegal switch device that converted it into a fully automatic weapon.

The firearm was loaded with one round of 9mm ammunition and equipped with a large-capacity magazine. A 50-round drum magazine was also recovered.

Green remains in custody pending sentencing.
