The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office is leading the active and ongoing homicide investigation following a deadly shooting that erupted late Monday night in the capital city, leaving one man dead and another hospitalized.

Authorities say the violence broke out just before midnight near Covert Alley, between North Olden Avenue and First Street.
Trenton police officers quickly responded to the scene, where they discovered two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency responders from Trenton EMS and Capital Health paramedics rushed both victims to Capital Health Regional Medical Center’s trauma unit.
Police say one of the victims, who sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The second victim, shot in the leg, remains hospitalized.
Crime scene tape stretched across the area from North Clinton Avenue to First Street as investigators worked through the night to collect evidence and interview witnesses.
The scene remained active into the early morning hours as detectives continued to process the area.
While the motive for the shooting is still unclear, the Mercer County Homicide Task Force is leading the investigation alongside the Trenton Police Department.
No arrests have been announced as of Tuesday morning.
