Authorities are investigating a tense encounter involving a New Brunswick resident who allegedly threatened first responders and later barricaded herself inside a home on Harvey Street.
According to a statement released by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, police were dispatched to the residence around 12:30 p.m. on July 10 in response to a welfare check for an individual reportedly in crisis.
Upon arrival, officers say the resident became combative, attempting to stab both a New Brunswick Police Officer and a firefighter.
Following the altercation, the woman barricaded herself inside the home, prompting the activation of the Middlesex County Special Operations Team.
After efforts to de-escalate the situation, the resident eventually surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without further incident.
She now faces two counts of aggravated assault and one count of possessing a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
Anyone with additional information is urged to contact Officer Daniel Williams of the New Brunswick Police Department at 732-745-5200.
