Authorities have made public video recordings related to a deadly police-involved shooting that occurred in Woodbridge Township in June 2024.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office released the body-worn camera footage from three officers involved in the fatal encounter, which led to the death of Karl Gregory, 46, of New York City.
According to a statement released by the Attorney General’s Office, the incident remains under active investigation by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA), which is responsible for reviewing all deaths involving law enforcement.
The footage release aligns with transparency policies implemented in 2019 to ensure impartiality in investigations of fatal use-of-force incidents.
Mr. Gregory’s family was given the opportunity to view the footage before it was shared with the public, officials said.
The preliminary investigation indicates that on the night of June 12, 2024, officers from the Edison and Woodbridge police departments were alerted to a vehicle spotted by an automated license plate reader.
The vehicle was believed to be connected to a shooting in New York City, where the victim suffered life-threatening injuries.

Later that evening, officers located the unoccupied vehicle in the parking lot of the Royal Albert’s Palace Hotel on King George's Post Road.
The New York City Police Department (NYPD) was contacted, and detectives briefed local authorities on their ongoing case.
In the early morning hours of June 13, law enforcement personnel were still on site conducting interviews when, at approximately 12:21 a.m., Mr. Gregory emerged from a hotel elevator carrying several bags.
Upon seeing the officers, he dropped the bags and reached into a black backpack.
According to officials, an exchange of gunfire quickly followed between Mr. Gregory and Woodbridge Police Officers Drew Krupinski and Justin Nerney, along with NYPD Detective Matthew Mauro.
All three officers and Mr. Gregory were struck during the shooting. Woodbridge officers rendered aid to Mr. Gregory before emergency medical services arrived, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A handgun was recovered near his body.
Officer Nerney and Detective Mauro were treated for their injuries and have since been discharged from the hospital.
New Jersey Attorney General officials said the investigation is still underway, and no further details are being shared at this time.
