Authorities in Newark are investigating a stabbing incident that left a woman injured following a dispute at a residence Friday afternoon.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, officers were dispatched to the area of Mt. Pleasant Avenue near Oriental Street around 12:48 p.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, police located a woman who had sustained a hand injury during what officials say was a verbal altercation with a man she knew.
The wound was described as non-life-threatening.
The victim was transported to University Hospital, where she is being treated and reported to be in stable condition.
Police were able to quickly identify and apprehend the suspect, an adult male, at the scene. He has since been taken into custody and is expected to face a charge of aggravated assault.
The incident remains under investigation.
