UPDATE: Police Clear Hillside Office Building Following Report of Armed Individual

A report of a potential armed individual prompted a large police response to a commercial building on Liberty Avenue in Hillside on Wednesday, causing major traffic disruptions and heightened public concern.

According to a statement released by Hillside Police officials, officers responded to 1350 Liberty Avenue after receiving a call about a person possibly in possession of a firearm inside the building.

Authorities say that, out of an abundance of caution, both local and county law enforcement resources were deployed to secure the area and ensure public safety.

The building was methodically searched by responding officers and partner agencies.

After a thorough investigation, police confirmed that the premises were cleared and that there is no active threat to the community at this time.

“We would like to thank our law enforcement partners for their prompt support and coordination during this incident,” officials said. “We also thank the public for their patience and cooperation, Hillside Police officials said.

While the search led to temporary traffic congestion around Liberty Avenue, authorities emphasized that the swift and unified response was necessary to prioritize community safety.

No injuries or arrests were reported in connection to the incident.
