Newark and much of North Jersey are starting Tuesday on a wet note, with morning rain falling steadily across the region and heavier showers in some areas.

As commuters head out early, umbrellas are a must, as the National Weather Service reports widespread rain, though it won’t last all day.
Drier air is expected to move in temporarily before more significant weather impacts the area later in the day.
According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon, especially after 5 p.m., with some storms expected to reach severe levels.
Conditions will remain mostly cloudy, with a high near 91 degrees and heat index values climbing as high as 98.
Tuesday night will also be active, with thunderstorms continuing before 11 p.m., followed by additional rounds of showers and storms through the early morning hours. Lows will hover around 73 degrees.
As we enter July and kick off the third quarter of the year, residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and take precautions during periods of severe weather.
Stay safe and stay dry, New Jersey.
