Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man captured on surveillance footage in connection with a violent stabbing that occurred early Saturday morning.
According to authorities, the incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. on June 29 in the 20 block of Fleming Avenue. Surveillance video shows the suspect approaching the victim—an individual known to him—as the victim sat on the front steps of a residence.
The suspect appeared to extend a hand for a greeting before suddenly stabbing the victim multiple times in the back.

The suspect then fled eastbound on Fleming Avenue.
The victim sustained injuries to the back of the shoulders and neck and was taken to University Hospital for treatment.
Director Miranda is urging anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information regarding his identity to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS.
