Two Injured in Early Morning Shooting in Newark’s South Ward

Authorities are investigating a shooting that left two people injured in Newark’s South Ward early Friday morning.

According to Newark police, officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Leslie Street at approximately 12:15 a.m. following reports of a person injured inside a residence. 

Upon arrival, officers located a female victim who had sustained a gunshot wound to her leg.

While canvassing the area, police also discovered a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire and found a second victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the hand.

Both individuals were transported to a nearby hospital and are expected to recover from their injuries.

The motive for the shooting remains under investigation. 

The Newark Police Department and the Shooting Response Team are leading the probe.
