UPDATE: Armed Stabbing Suspect Arrested in Hotel Lobby Following Police Chase

An armed 65-year-old North Carolina man, identified as Brian Pyke, was captured by police in a dramatic hotel lobby takedown after fleeing a stabbing scene in Montgomery Township, according to Information released by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office.

On Monday, June 16, at approximately 1:32 p.m., emergency responders in Montgomery Township were dispatched to Willow Run Lane following reports of a male victim suffering stab wounds.

The victim, a resident of Montgomery, was rushed to Cooper University Hospital and underwent emergency surgery. He is expected to recover.

Witnesses provided a description of a red SUV driven by the suspect. That vehicle was spotted later on County Route 533, but when police attempted a traffic stop, the driver sped off.

Pyke led authorities on a high-speed pursuit through Montgomery and Princeton before entering South Brunswick, where he abandoned his vehicle outside the Holiday Inn on Route 1. Pyke then ran into the hotel lobby, prompting officers to tackle and subdue him amid concerns of a possible standoff, as reported by RLS Media.

Police found Pyke was armed, and he sustained facial injuries during the arrest.

No hotel guests or staff were harmed. Pyke was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries, then transferred to Somerset County Jail.

He has been formally charged with second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree eluding, and third-degree unlawful weapons possession.

Prosecutors say he struck a Montgomery Township Police vehicle during the chase.

The investigation, conducted by the Montgomery Township Police Detective Bureau and the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit, is ongoing.
