UPDATE: Senior Man Fatally Struck in Early Morning Crash on Parkway in Irvington

A 70-year-old man from East Orange was struck and killed in a crash that unfolded early Thursday morning on a stretch of the Garden State Parkway in Essex County, according to New Jersey State Police officials.

Troopers were dispatched around 4:25 a.m. to the northbound lanes near milepost 145.7 in Irvington Township for reports of a serious collision involving a pedestrian.
 

Preliminary findings indicate that a Jeep Grand Cherokee and another unidentified vehicle were traveling northbound when, under still-unclear circumstances, a collision occurred involving both vehicles and a pedestrian in the roadway. 

 

Authorities identified the victim as Richard Angel, who was pronounced dead at the scene due to injuries sustained during the impact.

The crash prompted significant delays for commuters during the morning rush, as investigators worked to examine the scene and clear the highway.

 

The incident remains under active investigation by New Jersey State Police, and no further details have been released at this time.
