Police in Newark are investigating a shots-fired incident that temporarily shut down part of a major roadway in the city’s North Ward early Monday morning.

The gunfire was reported shortly after 8 a.m. in the 1900 block of McCarter Highway near Grafton Avenue, close to the Riverside Court housing complex.
According to officials, a ShotSpotter alert was activated in the area, forcing a rapid police response.
Upon arrival, officers located shell casings at the scene and immediately shut down McCarter Highway from Third Avenue to Riverside Drive to begin an active investigation.
No injuries were reported, and no victims were found during the search of the area.
Currently, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains under investigation.
