Atlantic City Man Pleads Guilty to Illegal Handgun Possession

Authorities in Atlantic County announced that on Thursday, May 29, Devin Brown, 23, of Atlantic City, entered a guilty plea to second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun.

The recommended sentence is a five-year term in New Jersey State Prison, subject to a 42-month period of parole ineligibility, ACPO officials said. 

According to Atlantic County officials, on December 14, 2024, members of the Atlantic City Police Department were on patrol in the area of 1542 Atlantic Avenue when they observed the defendant, who was wanted on an unrelated warrant.

Officers advised Brown that they wished to speak with him, Atlantic City Police stated. Brown looked at the officers, ignored their commands, and began to flee.

Police pursued and were ultimately able to place Brown into custody as he was trying to enter a New Jersey Transit bus, ACPO officials say. 

Atlantic County authorities said after a brief struggle with police, Brown was placed into handcuffs and searched incident to his arrest.

Law enforcement located a loaded Smith and Wesson .38 Special handgun, ACPO officials said. 

After his guilty plea, Atlantic County officials say Brown was released pending sentencing over the State’s objection. He will be sentenced before the Honorable Dorothy Incarvito-Garrabrant, J.S.C., on July 11, 2025.
