An unidentified child was brought to Bayonne Medical Center overnight with a gunshot wound, prompting an investigation that has since been transferred to Jersey City police.

This incident marks the second time in less than a week that a child has been injured by gunfire in Jersey City.

According to preliminary reports, Bayonne police responded to the hospital after the child arrived with a gunshot injury.

Upon further investigation, authorities determined that the shooting occurred at the Sal-Laf Court Apartments in Jersey City, leading to the involvement of the Jersey City Police Department.

Details regarding the exact circumstances of the shooting and the child’s condition have not been released at this time. Sources close to the investigation told RLS Media that the child's injuries are non-life-threatening.

This incident follows a separate shooting on Sunday, May 25, around 10:00 p.m., near the intersection of Martin Luther King Drive and Orient Avenue.

In that case, an 11-year-old boy was struck in the leg by a bullet while near a playground.

The child was transported to Jersey City Medical Center and is expected to make a full recovery. Surveillance footage from the scene showed people scrambling for cover as multiple shots were fired.

Police later discovered a vehicle with bullet holes nearby and are searching for a suspect seen fleeing the area in a silver car.
