A tragic incident took place in the early morning hours on Monday when a man was fatally struck by an NJ Transit train near Summit Station, according to officials.

NJ Transit Police are currently leading the investigation into the fatal pedestrian strike, which occurred at approximately 1:28 a.m. on the Morris & Essex Line.
The train involved, No. 6907, had departed New York Penn Station at 12:34 a.m. and was en route to Dover, where it was scheduled to arrive at 2:13 a.m.
Authorities say the individual struck was an adult male who was reportedly trespassing on the tracks at the time of the incident.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Fortunately, none of the approximately 50 passengers or crew members on board the train were injured, officials confirmed.

Service on the line was temporarily impacted as crews responded to the scene, and NJ Transit Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatality.
