Pedestrian Struck and Killed on Route 37 in Toms River

Authorities in Ocean County are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian along a busy stretch of roadway in Toms River Thursday night.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 7:50 p.m. near the intersection of Route 37 and Douglas Street. 

Emergency responders rushed to the scene following multiple reports of a person struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, first responders found the unidentified pedestrian with critical injuries and immediately began life-saving efforts. 

A request was made for a medivac helicopter to transport the individual to a nearby trauma center, but the victim was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police shut down the eastbound lanes of Route 37 to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The incident remains under active review by Toms River Police and Ocean County officials. 

Further details, including the victim's identity and whether charges will be filed, have not yet been released.
