Deadly Newark Shooting Under Investigation After Victim Walks Into Hospital

Essex County authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday night in Newark’s South Ward, leaving one man dead.

According to preliminary reports, officials at Beth Israel Hospital notified police around 10:10 p.m. after an unidentified male gunshot victim arrived at the emergency department.

Upon arrival, officers learned the victim may have been shot near the intersection of Avon Avenue and Ridgewood Avenue before making his way to the hospital.

Detectives from the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office responded to the suspected shooting location and established a crime scene to search for evidence. 

It is not yet known what, if anything, was recovered from the area.

The victim’s identity has not been released, and the motive for the shooting remains unclear. The investigation is active and ongoing.
