Authorities are investigating a tragic multi-vehicle crash in Kearny that claimed the lives of two people and left several others injured in the early morning hours of Friday, May 16.
According to information released by the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Kearny Police responded shortly after 3:30 a.m. to reports of a serious collision near 490 Newark-Jersey City Turnpike.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that a BMW sedan and a Ford Transit Van had been involved in the crash.
Tragically, the male driver of the BMW and a female passenger sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 4:45 a.m.
Authorities are withholding their identities pending positive identification and notification of next of kin. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Ford Transit Van was carrying nine passengers from Canada and New York State.
Emergency Medical Services transported seven of the injured to University Hospital in Newark and two others to Jersey City Medical Center. One individual remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit, with assistance from the Kearny Police Department, is actively working to determine what led to the crash.
