Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of a man in Newark’s South Ward on Saturday afternoon.

According to information released by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the incident occurred shortly before 3:45 p.m. near the intersection of Bergen Street and Harding Terrace.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire and arrived to find a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released.
Police cordoned off the area and recovered several shell casings during a sweep of the neighborhood.
However, no additional victims were located during the search.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Officials said the investigation is active and ongoing.
