Authorities in Summit announced the arrest of a 26-year-old East Orange man following an armed home invasion that occurred earlier this year.

According to information released by the Summit Police Department, Alquan Harris was taken into custody in connection with a February 21 incident where he allegedly broke into a Summit home and stole a 2025 Infiniti QX80 while armed.

Although the suspect reportedly did not confront anyone inside the residence, the event deeply affected the victims and the surrounding community.

The arrest followed a months-long investigation that spanned multiple jurisdictions and involved surveillance footage, forensic evidence, and information shared between law enforcement agencies.

Harris is now facing a range of charges, including burglary, theft, receiving stolen property, and multiple weapons offenses.

Chief Ryan Peters of the Summit Police Department praised the collaborative effort that led to Harris’s apprehension.

“This case is a testament to the determination and professionalism of our officers and investigators,” Chief Peters said. “We are especially grateful for the coordinated support from the Union County Prosecutor’s Office, Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, and other assisting agencies whose partnership made this arrest possible.”

Harris is currently being held at the Essex County Jail pending a detention hearing. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
