A tragic incident in Washington Township has left the community in mourning after a 10-year-old boy died from a gunshot wound, according to a statement released by the Washington Township Police Department.
Police were called to a home on the 400 block of Westminster Boulevard around 2:34 p.m. on Tuesday, May 6, following a report of a juvenile with a gunshot injury.
Officers and emergency responders arrived to find the young boy suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Despite efforts to save him, the child was pronounced dead at the scene.

The boy was a student at Birches Elementary School, and his death has deeply shaken the Washington Township community, officials said.
School officials are working with counselors to provide support services to students, staff, and families affected by the tragedy.
The Washington Township Police Department, in partnership with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Authorities have not released further details out of respect for the family’s privacy.
Chief Patrick M. Gurcsik expressed his department’s heartfelt condolences to the family and all impacted by the loss.
