As of early this morning, around 4:30 a.m., the streets were relatively quiet, but conditions are expected to worsen as the morning progresses.

Forecasters warn that off-and-on storms will move through the area, bringing periods of heavy rain that could trigger localized flooding in parts of North Jersey known to flood easily.

Adding to the challenge is widespread fog, making for dangerous driving conditions. Commuters are urged to slow down, use headlights, and drive cautiously.

According to the National Weather Service, the day’s forecast calls for showers and possibly thunderstorms, with patchy fog and a high near 69 degrees.

Forecasters say winds will come from the southeast at 8 to 10 mph.

Tonight, rain and thunderstorms will continue before tapering to showers after 2 a.m., with lows around 57 degrees and continued fog.

Residents are advised to keep an umbrella handy, stay alert for weather updates and drive safely. Have a great and safe Tuesday, Newark!
