State troopers responded to a major motor vehicle crash just before 1 p.m. Sunday on the New Jersey Turnpike’s northbound outer roadway near milepost 56.4 in Chesterfield Township, Burlington County.
According to a preliminary investigation from the NJ State Police, two Van Hool buses traveling northbound were involved when one bus rear-ended the other.
The impact triggered a chain-reaction crash involving three passenger vehicles that were following behind the buses.

Authorities reported that a total of 39 passengers sustained minor injuries in the collision. All injured individuals were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The New Jersey State Police said the crash remains under active investigation. No further details were immediately available.
