Cloudy, Cool Sunday in Newark After Overnight Storms; More Rain Expected

Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Newark and the North Jersey region are waking up to a cloudy and cool morning following a stormy overnight that brought heavy rain and caused brief localized flooding in areas already prone to high water.

As of early Sunday, it’s a comfortable 62 degrees in downtown Newark — a nice start for anyone heading to first Sunday services at your house of worship.

However, residents are advised to keep an umbrella or rain gear handy, as scattered showers are expected throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a slight chance of showers before noon, followed by a higher likelihood of showers and thunderstorms between noon and 2 p.m.

Rain and possibly thunderstorms are expected after 2 p.m., with a high near 72 degrees and south winds around 6 to 8 mph.

Sunday night will bring more rain and patchy fog, with lows around 59 degrees.

While it’s not expected to be as stormy as last night, residents should prepare for a wet day ahead.
