According to a statement released by the U.S. Department of Justice, a former Salem County resident has admitted to filing false income tax returns, leading to a substantial tax loss of approximately $590,000.

Michael DiPaolo, Jr., 47, currently living in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Edward S. Kiel to one count of filing a false income tax return.

Federal prosecutors said that between 2018 and 2022, DiPaolo worked as the manager of a restaurant in Salem County, New Jersey, where he received significant income.

During this period, DiPaolo failed to report more than $1.7 million in income, allowing him to avoid paying roughly $590,000 in federal taxes.

The charge of filing a false tax return carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000, or twice the amount of the financial loss or gain, depending on which is greater.

DiPaolo’s sentencing is set for September 3, 2025.
