According to a statement released by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, a Toms River woman who serves as a police officer is facing multiple charges following a violent incident in Berkeley Township late Friday night.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced that Rebecca Sayegh, 32, was charged on April 28 with Home Invasion Burglary, two counts of Assault, two counts of Criminal Mischief, Terroristic Threats, and Resisting Arrest in connection with the April 25 incident.

Authorities said that at approximately 11:20 p.m. on April 25, officers from the Berkeley Township Police Department were dispatched to a home on Evernham Avenue following reports of a domestic disturbance.

When officers arrived, they determined that Sayegh—identified as an off-duty Toms River Township police officer—had forcibly entered the residence by shattering the front glass door.

Once inside, she allegedly assaulted and threatened two individuals.

Investigators further learned that Sayegh caused additional damage by vandalizing the hood of a vehicle parked in the driveway, which belonged to one of the victims.

Sayegh reportedly resisted arrest before being taken into custody at the scene. Initially charged via summons, authorities later upgraded the charges to a warrant due to the seriousness of the allegations.

On April 28, Berkeley Township officers apprehended Sayegh at her home without incident. She is currently being held at the Ocean County Jail, pending a detention hearing.

Prosecutor Billhimer praised the Berkeley Township Police Department for their quick and effective response to the situation.

As always, officials emphasized that the charges are accusations, and Sayegh is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
