Residents across several communities served by the Passaic Valley Water Commission (PVWC) are being advised that the agency will begin its annual hydrant flushing program starting Monday, April 28, 2025, weather permitting.
According to information provided by PVWC, flushing operations will take place on weekdays, excluding holidays, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m., and are expected to continue through November.
The work will begin in Clifton and Paterson, with updates on the flushing schedule available at pvwc.com.

The hydrant flushing process is a routine yet vital part of maintaining the community’s water system.
By clearing out sediment and minerals that naturally build up within the water mains, PVWC aims to ensure a reliable and high-quality water supply for its customers.
During this maintenance, residents may notice temporary discoloration of their tap water or experience a slight drop in water pressure.
Officials recommend avoiding laundry during active flushing periods and running cold water taps until the water runs clear before drinking or cooking.
"Flushing is an important part of keeping our water system safe and operating efficiently," said Jim Mueller, Executive Director of the Passaic Valley Water Commission. "We appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our customers as we carry out this necessary work."
The scheduled flushing will include the following municipalities:
Clifton, Lodi, North Arlington, Passaic, Paterson, Prospect Park, and the High Crest and Post Brook sections of West Milford.
PVWC expressed its gratitude to residents for their patience throughout the process. For additional information or to track which areas are being flushed, customers are encouraged to visit pvwc.com or contact customer service at 973-340-4300, option #2.
