Newark Police are investigating a shots-fired incident that caused property damage in the city’s South Ward just before midnight.
According to officials, a ShotSpotter device was activated after detecting 17 rounds of gunfire in the area of 53 Voorhees Street.
Officers arrived at the scene and discovered multiple shell casings, along with a vehicle that bullets had struck.

The car was occupied at the time of the shooting, but no injuries were reported. Authorities said the driver was able to escape unharmed.
It remains unclear whether the individual was the intended target.
The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. Newark’s Shooting Response Team is leading the ongoing investigation.
