A 16-year-old student is facing multiple charges following a violent stabbing that took place Tuesday morning inside Fort Lee High School, leaving another student critically injured.
According to information released by Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, the teen suspect was arrested shortly after the attack, which occurred around 10:52 a.m. on April 8.
Fort Lee Police responded to an emergency call from a school officer reporting a stabbing inside the building.
Additional units from surrounding areas arrived quickly as the school went into lockdown.
Officers found a male student suffering from multiple stab wounds, including injuries to the neck, back, abdomen, and arm. School security and emergency responders provided immediate aid before the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital.
He remains in critical but stable condition.
Investigators from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Fort Lee Police Department determined that the incident began as an altercation between the two students in a school restroom.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly used a knife to stab the victim multiple times.
The accused teen was taken into protective custody at the scene. He has since been charged with several juvenile delinquency offenses, including first-degree attempted murder, second-degree aggravated assault, and multiple weapons violations.
He is currently being held at the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center, pending a closed hearing in Family Court.
The investigation remains ongoing.
