Newark

By: Richard L. Smith

Police officials in Newark are looking into the motives behind three shots-fired incidents around the city Thursday.

In all the incidents, officials are crediting ShotSpotter activation that alerted them of gunfire in the neighborhood.

Police say at approximately 6:07 p.m., a gunman fired multiple rounds at unknown targets in the 60's block of South 13th Street. Officers arrived and found evidence of a shooting but no victims or suspects after they canvassed near Gould Avenue.

At approximately 6:18 p.m., a ShotSpotter activation detected multiple rounds of gunfire in the area of 671 South 10th Street behind Woodland Cemetary. Officers checked the neighborhood and located shell casings, but no victims or suspects were present.

Newark Police closed the evening with a shooting incident in the North Ward, where gunfire rang out at Ruggerio Plaza around 11 p.m.

Major Crimes detective arrived and found several shell casings, but no victims were located.

No arrests have been reported in either incident.
