Paterson Man Found Guilty of Aggravated Assault

Passaic County authorities announce that Walter A. Williams, 30, of Paterson, was found guilty after a jury trial.

According to the Police, on February 6, the jury returned guilty verdicts on second-degree Aggravated Assault and third-degree Theft from a Person.

According to officials, on the Aggravated Assault count, Mr. Williams is exposed to a term of imprisonment of up to ten (10) years in New Jersey State Prison, with 85% to be served before parole eligibility in accordance with the No Early Release Act and up to five (5) years in New Jersey State Prison on the Theft from a Persson count.

Officials say Mr. Williams was remanded to the Passaic County Jail pending sentence. Mr. Williams’ sentencing is scheduled for April 25.

The State presented evidence at trial that on November 15, 2020, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Mr. Williams assaulted Mr. Luis Rey, 62, in the 400 block of  Broadway in Paterson.

According to authorities, specifically, Mr. Williams took Mr. Rey and slammed him onto the concrete sidewalk resulting in a broken collarbone, several broken ribs, and a head laceration.

In addition, Mr. Rey had certain property in his possession before the assault was taken by Mr. Williams.
