UPDATE: 25-Year-Old Man Killed in Jersey City Shooting

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the shooting death of a 25-year-old man on Summit Avenue on Sunday, January 29.

According to Prosecutor Suarez, at approximately 9:35 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Summit Avenue and Poplar Street in Jersey City.  

Upon arrival, Prosecutor  Suarez said responding officers located a male victim — later identified as Mr. Rafael Gomez, 25, of Jersey City — in the area of 1143 Summit Avenue with an apparent gunshot wound(s) to the torso.  

Emergency Medical Services transported Gomez to Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:09 p.m.

The Cause and Manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
