Over a dozen city children will now enjoy a special Christmas this weekend thanks to three groups led by Newark residents.
The groups teamed up and held their first toy giveaway at a location in the city's West Ward Sunday, December 18th.
Ms. Kumara Lance, a Newark Arts High School senior broadcast student and founder of the newly formed community outreach program 'Pretty Girl Project' along with rising hip-hop producer Mora Mina, teamed up with Inspire Newark to host Santa's Toy Giveaway.
To bring joy and happiness to the community, Lance said the occasion was fitting for children who may not have received gifts on Christmas day or around holiday time.
“Our organizations never want any child to go without opening a present this season of giving. -Pretty Girl Project Founder Kumara Lance said.
"As the most vulnerable, sometimes the holidays are overwhelming for children who simply want to feel loved and get gifts. We're just happy to be here and help in any way that we can,"
The event was held at 170 Littleton Avenue from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Lance said the ultimate aim for future toy giveaways is for every Newark kid needing the best holiday experience with lots of toys to enjoy and food.
The participating organizations also collected and donated shirts, pants, socks, and other clothing for the children.
"As teenagers, we encourage our peers to participate and volunteer in community activities like this," Lance said.
"This is an outlet for me because I am able to help families in need with these accessible events and bring joy into my Newark community."
