BREAKING: Suspicious Fumes Evacuate Newark North Ward Senior Citizen High-Rise

Newark Police and fire officials are looking into the source of suspicious fumes that forced an evacuation of a senior citizen building in the city's North Ward Saturday morning. 

RLS Media was on the scene of the evacuation at the Stephen Crane Elderly complex located at 58 Evergreen Lane around 5:45 a.m.

Newark Firefighters, University Hospital EMS, Newark Emergency  Services and other responders arrived at the 12-story building after receiving reports of a carbon monoxide leak had residents feeling ill. 

About 11 residents were evaluated at the scene then taken to local hospitals, but no serious injuries were reported.

Police have not released the official cause of the carbon monoxide leaj at this time. 

NJ Transit sent a bus to the complex to keep residents warm while firefighters investigated the source of the fumes and searched for other possible victims on the 11 and 12th floors. 

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
