Fire Displaces Three Families in Newark’s South Ward

Newark Police officials are reporting that members of the Newark Fire Division extinguished a fire at 432 South 6th Street today.

According to officials, just before 10:35 p.m. last night, firefighters responded to a call of a fire in the 3-story, occupied residential building.

The fire extended to adjacent addresses at 421 and 425 South 6th Street, with 423 South 6th Street experiencing a partial collapse.

Officials said no injuries have been reported.

The department states the fire was considered under control at 2 a.m. Three families, including 11 adults and three children, have been relocated.

The cause and origin of this fire are under investigation by the Newark Department of Public Safety’s Arson Unit.
