UPDATE: Authorities Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Collision in Jersey City

Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has announced that the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is assisting the Jersey City Police Department with investigating a fatal crash involving a pedestrian that occurred on Monday, May 2.

According to police, at approximately 9:50 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Sip Avenue and Routes 1 and 9 on reports of a pedestrian struck. 

Police said that the responding officers located a male victim with multiple injuries and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing the roadway when he was struck by an SUV that was traveling north. 

According to the investigation, the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. The pedestrian was subsequently struck by a second vehicle.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of his next of kin. 

The Jersey City Police Department is actively investigating with the assistance of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit.
