Irvington Man Arrested After Attempting to Pull Shotgun at Newark Officer

Newark New Jersey

Friday Newark police drew their weapons on an Irvington man after he allegedly reached for a shotgun.

Police were on patrol in the area of Norwood Street and Lindsley Avenue when they noticed two men, one of which had the butt of a weapon showing, police said.

Officials said, once officers exited their vehicle and approached them, both men fled initiating a foot chase.

Officers caught up to one of the fleeing men, later identified as 20-year-old Samir Alvarado-Brown.

Alvarado-Brown then walked towards the officers while attempting to pull the gun from his clothing. The officers then pulled their own weapons and ordered Alvarado-Brown to the ground.

He complied and was arrested, police said.

Authorities recovered a loaded 12-gauge shotgun.

No injuries were reported.
