UPDATE; Somerville Man Shot Dead in Downtown Newark

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, and Newark Public Safety Director Brian O’Hara announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department, is investigating a fatal shooting. 

Officials said today, Friday, June 18, Mr. Christopher Williams, 31, of Somerville was fatally shot in the 200 block of Washington Street outside of the City Lounge  in the city of Newark.  

 

He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:13 am today.

Police said a 28-year-old man was also shot. He survived after checking in at St. Michael’s Hospital suffering a bullet wound. 

No arrests have been made at this time and the investigation is active and ongoing.
