Property Damage Confirmed After ShotSpotter Activation Detects Nearly a Dozen Rounds of Gunfire in Newark's South Ward

Two vehicles suffered extensive damage in a shots-fired incident that erupted in Newark's South Ward late Tuesday night. 

According to police, multiple rounds of gunfire activated a ShotSpotter detection device near 193 Lehigh Avenue around 8:20 p.m 

Police officers arrived at the scene and found two cars with several bullets through the windshield, but a search of the vehicles indicated no occupants inside. 

According to police officials, police taped off the neighborhood and collected about a dozen shell casings in the vicinity of 175-193 Lehigh Avenue. 

Authorities said a 5'10" black male who wore all black clothing fled the scene northbound on Osborne Terrace.
