Newark Police to Review Woman's Death Ruled as Suicide

Newark

Newark Police have announced that they will review the death of Ashley Moore, who was found unresponsive in Newark on April 1.

“This unfortunate incident has officially been ruled as a suicide,” Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose said. “And to date, our detectives have not discovered evidence to the contrary. However, I have reached out to Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens and requested a review of Ms. Moore’s death by the county’s Homicide Task Force."

According to police, at approximately 4:10 a.m., police responded to the YMCA, located at 600 Broad Street, on a call of a sick or injured person.

Police report that responding officers located Ms. Moore lying on the sidewalk in front of the YMCA building. She was transported to University Hospital where she was pronounced as deceased.

“Upon completion of the Homicide Task Force’s review, we will apprise Ms. Moore’s family of the outcome of these findings,” Director Ambrose said.
