Police Find Man Shot Dead After ShotSpotter Activation in Newark

County authorities are looking into the motive behind a shooting that left one person dead in a section of Newark Friday night.

According to a preliminary investigation, police received a ShotSpotter alert in the vicinity of 763 South 11th Street at approximately 10:55 p.m.

When police arrived at the scene, they canvassed a short time and found a male lying in blood after being shot multiple times at that location.

Police say the unidentified victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Essex County Prosecutor's Office has taken over the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.

No arrests have been reported.
