Passaic Man Arrested in Connection to Shooting

Passaic County officials announced that as a result of an investigation by the Passaic Police Department, Yormani M. Cruz, 18, from Passaic, was arrested on June 16, in relation to a shooting that took place on May 16.

According to Passaic County officials, Mr. Cruz is charged with Aggravated Assault, Second Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree. In addition, Mr. Cruz is charged with Resisting Arrest, Fourth Degree in relation to his arrest on June 16.

On May 16, at approximately 7:50 p.m., members of the Passaic Police Department responded to the area of Summer and Spruce Streets in Passaic on a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, the police located evidence of a crime scene but were unable to locate a victim. Mr. Cruz was identified and arrested on June 16, at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the area of East 27th Street in Paterson.

The incident is still under investigation.
