Authorities Arrest Paterson Shooting Suspect

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes, U.S. Marshall Juan Mattos, Jr. and Paterson Police Chief Ibrahim Baycora announce that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and US Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force - Newark Division.

Police say Mr. Dijon Sellow, 19, from Paterson was arrested on February 7th in relation to a shooting investigation that took place on August 3, 2019, in the area of North Main and Clinton Street Paterson.

According to officials say Mr. Sellow is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree (2 counts); and Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree (2 counts) in relation to the August 3, 2019 incident.

According to a statement released by police, on August 3, 2019, members of the Paterson Police Department responded to the area of North Main and Clinton Street Paterson, NJ, on a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, the police located evidence of a crime scene, but no victim was found. A short time later, members of the Paterson Police Department were advised that a 20-year-old male Paterson resident and an 18-year-old male Paterson resident had arrived at Saint Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson seeking treatment for non-fatal gunshot wounds.

Based on the investigation, Mr. Sellow was identified as the individual who shot the victims. With the assistance of the US Marshals Service NY/NJ Regional Fugitive Task Force, Mr. Sellow was located and arrested on February 7, 2020, in the area of Ellison Street Paterson, NJ. Mr. Sellow was charged based on items recovered during his arrest.

In addition, Officials say Mr. Sellow is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree (2 counts); Possession of a Handgun for an Unlawful Purpose (2 counts), Receiving Stolen Property, Third Degree, Possession of Hollow Point Bullets, Fourth Degree, Possession of a Defaced Firearm, Fourth Degree, and Possession of a Large Capacity Ammunition Magazine, Fourth Degree (6 counts).

The State has filed a motion for pretrial detention in this matter that will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.

A criminal complaint is merely an accusation. Despite this accusation, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
